He holds a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK, and is currently an associate professor of geology at Florida State University. Mookherjee's research primarily focuses on the volatile cycles deep within the Earth and the dynamics of Solid Earth. He joined Carnegie this past January as a Global Visitor Fellow, working with Staff Scientist Yingwei Fei and members of his research group to conduct high-pressure experiments to examine the stability of hydrous phases that play a vital role in transporting water into the deep Earth.
