Jessica Moore, associate director of financial planning and budgeting at Carnegie Science, led a workshop titled "Creating a Successful Cost Proposal" at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, in the Abelson Collaboration Center (ACC) as part of DTM's Postdoctoral Development Workshop Series.

During her presentation, Moore discussed different types of cost proposals, the proposal submission process, and how to prepare a budget. Securing external funding, whether from the U.S. government or private donors, is important to the success of many scientific research projects. In order to submit a successful cost proposal, it is essential to understand the regulatory environment as well as fundamentals of budget development. Moore examined the new Uniform Guidance from the U.S. government, critical areas to review when looking at any request for a proposal, and best practices for developing an accurate budget.
