Overview
Nico Küter (Kueter) is working with George Cody on investigating molar volume isotope effects on hydrogen incorporated as water in silicate melts. Silicate melts, such as magma, yield unusually high hydrogen isotope fractionation when degassing volatiles, which may be explained by this molar volume isotope effect. This has implications on our understanding about the deep, geological water cycle, including the storage capacity and degassing processes of silicic magmatic melts. Other interests involve - Mechanisms of isotope exchange and fractionation - COHN volatile cylces - Synthetic and natural diamond, graphite and graphitic carbon - GC-IRMS applications in Earth Sciences - Geology of Southeast Asia.
