Overview
Jaehan Bae is interested in the dynamics of planet-forming, young circumstellar disks. He uses numerical simulations to model signatures of forming planets in circumstellar disks, aiming to interpret high-resolution observations from new-generation facilities and to guide future observations to uncover forming planets.
Recently, Jaehan has been working on various aspects of spiral waves -- one of the outcomes of planet-disk interactions --, including (1) the formation of multiple spiral arms from a planet; (2) the formation of multiple concentric rings and gaps through spiral shocks; and (3) an instability of spiral waves that dissipates the spiral waves themselves. Developing upon these theoretical underpinnings, Jaehan hopes to provide a more complete picture of the evolution of planet-forming circumstellar disks including our own proto-solar nebula.
