Donghoon Kim is interested in exploring the structural behavior, phase transitions, and kinetics of planetary materials under extreme conditions corresponding to the deep interior conditions of exoplanets. At EPL, Kim works with Dr. Yingwei Fei and Sally Tracy to obtain constraints on the equation of state and phase transitions on planetary materials under shock or ramp (shockless) loading by using high-powered lasers with in situ X-ray diffraction measurements.
