Kaur Marhas
Kuljeet Kaur Marhas is a Professor in Planetary Science Division at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, India, who joins our campus as a Fulbright Scholar. She studies early forming solids to understand the origins of our Solar System, presolar grains, nucleosynthesis, and other Solar System bodies like the Moon and Mars via meteorites.
At EPL, Marhas’s Fulbright-Nehru aims to comprehend the process of nucleosynthesis and the temporal development of physical and cosmochemical conditions in novae by investigating the isotopes of sulfur and other elements present in presolar grains discovered in meteorites. The project involves the analysis of several dozen potential presolar novae grains using C and N isotopic measurements. Subsequently, the S isotopes will be measured to compare them with the most recent models of novae and supernovae to conclusively establish their lineage and origin.
